On this Date in 1807...
...the U.S. Congress passes an act to "prohibit the importation of slaves into any port or place within the jurisdiction of the United States... from any foreign kingdom, place, or country." Which worked out extremely well, and helped the country avoid a full blown civil war...or did it?

On this Date in 1865...
...in the United States, Delaware voters reject the Thirteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, and vote to continue the practice of slavery. Delaware finally ratifies the amendment on February 12, 1901, but by then no-one really cared because, well, it was Delaware.
